As we know it, the past few years have been pretty tough for the music industry. Suffering from a system that doesn’t work anymore, CD sales have been divided by ten these past ten years. Producers are reluctant to think about new solutions, but the market is almost over now! Majors are shrink from investing in bands, and musical successes are now made of buzz.
According to many, the problem comes from the dematerialization of music. Mp3s are indeed much more convenient than Cds. Well, they should think about Music USBs! If it was before reserved for major bands, like the beatles (and their USB discography) or Lady Gaga (The Fame Monster USB), this monopoly is over! It is not only for Pop music, because keys turned Indie’s!
An Israeli-French violonist, Avi Pilcer, decided to launch his new album on a Customized USB key! It developed it so it looks like a luxury item : you can “use” itas a necklace or a bracelet. To be able to launch the production, he actually needs your help! If you like the idea, check this project out on Kick Starter :

Why would you not be the next Artist?

British rock group Radiohead is releasing a special “newspaper” version of their latest album, the King of Limbs.

You might be wondering—what’s a newspaper album?

The King of Limbs newspaper album will feature music on two clear 10-inch vinyl records as well as a CD and MP3s, artwork on large sheet, and 625 small pieces of artwork on blotting paper. The contents are packaged in oxo-degradable plastic packaging.

The album’s artwork, which was said to be inspired by natural forms, forests and Northern European Fairytales, was designed by acclaimed artist Stanley Donwood. The concept of the newspaper album is that it’s a snapshot of where the band is at today, just like how a newspaper reports the news for that day.

On March 28th, Radiohead distributed a free newspaper called “the Universal Sigh,” which featured poetry, artwork and lyrics, to promote the King of Limbs newspaper album.

Some people have already begun receive the newspaper album even though it’s not set to be released until May 9th. It’s $48.00 for the album with MP3 files, and $53.00 for the album with WAV files. You can still preorder it on the band’s site http://www.thekingoflimbs.com/DIUSD.htm

Radiohead are known for their creative approach to music and marketing, and their fans are sure to appreciate this unique album package.

What do you think of the newspaper album concept? Is it something you’d be interested in purchasing, or would you prefer a download or CD version instead?
